Association of Country Music Alberta

Songwriter Stage January 26th, 2019 Sheraton Hotel, Red Deer

Kat has a new EP coming soon!

Premiere performance at ACMA's - so, here is River, a favourite track of Kat's.

This original stirs the soul:

Kat Zel has been delivering music for the masses with groovy beats, hooky songs, relatable lyrics and great musicianship. Her vocals are raw and edgy - perhaps best described as Sass Jordan meets Melissa Etheridge with sprinklings of a young Deborah Harry. She’s one to watch - that’s for sure!”

Project Diary & Updates

My first ACMa's at Sheraton Red Deer Hotel were fantastic.  To be in attendance with business women and men who have

worked in the industry for over 30+ years was a great opportunity.  EVERY question I could think of at the time, I got

answered.  Since, then the questions I emailed to some attendees were answered quickly too.  It is fun to email a person

from Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary that I now can put a face too.  The talented award winners and performers were all

outstanding.  The open mic on Saturday night for everyone who wanted to sign-up was a special treat.  For me meeting

the all girl band, "Nice Horse" was a highlight.  If you haven't seen them yet then check them out here:

Kat's Band: Rareflower recorded their first album in June 2018. Currently this is being mastered and it's due for release soon.

December 2018

Kat recorded her own EP.  Having spent the Fall in hibernation, this new material, should be hatching later Winter/ early Spring.    Several musician/songwriters have been collaborating on songs with her too.  Stay tuned for that news!

River Cree - Unified MMA December 13th, invited Kat to sing the U.S. National Anthem  - this was a special event.

November 2018:

Kat and Logan Klaus, along with their band from Battle of the Bands 2018, placed in a fundraiser by March of Dimes.  They got to record an original song, "Towers".  This was donated by James Seabrook of Two Bodies of Water, Edmonton. "Towers" had lyrics & melody written by Kat and Logan.  You are in for a treat.

Friday November 23rd, 2018: Hot Shotz Music Series - Thanks to the group Jenesia, Kat has been invited to play at their new music series at Hot Shotz Lounge in Spruce Grove.  Jenesa and Alex both graduates of the Grant MacEwan Music Program are incredibly talented artists and mentors of other musicians. By creating this incredible series, they offered me this opportunity.  Now you are invited to stop in and see us all perform at 7pm, in Hot Shotz Lounge.  This will make for some fun musical times. Contact me prior to the event for presale ticket pricing at $15 -  Music.KatZel@gmail.com

October 24th 2018:

HUGE shout out to Reuben and the Dark for setting up the Dreamer's Guild at the Winspear in Edmonton.  What a thrill! Being  part of the first ever "Dreamer's Guild" was a privilege.   Pre-opening this show was an amazing honour.   Thanks again to Reuben and his talented band.   Also appreciate all my new followers on Instragram and Facebook.  The Winspear was such a terrific night.

Kat Zel Upcoming Shows and Gig's and Charity Fundraisers:

October 2nd 2018 - Blues Society - Newcastle Pub, 50th Street, Edmonton 7pm - Semi-finals event to decide who proceeds to the finals and ultimately to Memphis Tennessee, to represent Edmonton Blue's Society.  Appreciate all the Blue's Society do for musicians and singer/songwriters.

Kat Zel and Sam Huisman will perform a Blue's set in front of adjudicators making that decision. Your support is very welcomed.

Songwriting collaborations:  While participating at the Big Valley Jamboree songwriter's stage 2018 - Kat decided to team-up with Brenda Dirk and write a song about their time at BVJ.  As a participant at the Jubilee Auditorium's annual "Speed Songwriting" event for schools, Kat and Logan Klaus, worked with 8 different school groups that day and co-wrote student inspired songs, on stage.  After Summer musical events, such as Sand on Whyte, Kat and Emmett Michael, collaborated on a new song about shared experiences.  Each of these creations formed artistic bonds with these musical friends.

During the past 8 years Kat has been songwriting and performing.  Daily while at Bev Facey she and her bandmates who were also classmates, created lyrics, music and prepared performance ready material.   As an artist, creating and performing her art, is when Kat is in her element.
